Washing Clothes with Powder Laundry Detergent. While it may seem that liquid and single-dose detergent pacs dominate the detergent aisles, for some people, powder detergent remains a laundry room staple.

Whether you’re motivated by its cardboard packaging, or the ability to customize how much detergent you use, powder detergent like all® free clear powder detergent can be a great option.

If you’re using laundry detergent powder, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind:

  • What is the correct amount of powder detergent to use? Read the package instructions carefully to fully understand how to measure the detergent for your respective load size.
  • Can you use powder detergent in a front-load washer? You can use powder detergent in a front-load washer, however, you will add it directly to the washer drum and not to the detergent dispenser. Make sure to pour the recommended amount of powder detergent based on your load size.
  • Can you pre-treat stains? Pre-treating stains is possible with powder detergent, but requires a little extra effort. Wet the stain and then mix the powder detergent and water to make a paste. Rub the paste into the stain, and then add to normal wash load.
  • How should you store powder detergent? Detergent should be stored out of reach from children and pets and should always be kept in its original packaging.
